Treaty Of Waitangi Essay

Introduction

In 1830 there were 100,000 Māori and 100 Europeans living in New Zealand. The behavior of the Whalers, the Missionaries’ desire to help protect Māori rights and the Musket Wars were reasons that a treaty was needed. The Declaration of Independence was another contributing factor to the need for a treaty.

Paragraph One (Lawyer)

One reason that a treaty was needed was the lawless behavior of some of the British Settlers like whalers.

One reason that a treaty was needed was the lawless behavior of some of the British Settlers like whalers. This was important because the Maori were getting caught up in the fighting and drinking that was occurring which had a negative effect. When the British arrived and were off the ships the first thing they did was get drunk, which led to very poor behavior. The fighting got really out of hand and wasn’t necessary, the Maori were being affected by the British. Maori women were used as prostitutes which left them feeling hurt and unsafe. The behavior shown was enough to make a treaty that set peace and rules around their behavior and them as people.

Paragraph Two (Lawyer)

Another reason that a treaty was needed was to protect Māori rights. One group that felt strongly about this was the missionaries.

Another reason that a treaty was needed was to protect Māori rights. One group that felt strongly about this was the missionaries. The missionaries were very protective of Maori, not only did they protect them but they created a bond between them, and taught them new things. Maori learnt many different aspects such as writing, reading, english, farming techniques and religious things. Many Maori were dying because of the Musket wars, they were also losing lots of land because the British were taking and not giving anything back in return, the Maori didn’t understand. This shows that a treaty was needed to help the Maori and make things fair between everyone.

Paragraph Three (Hammer)

Another reason that a treaty was needed was the Musket Wars.

Another reason that a treaty was needed was because of the Musket Wars. In the 1800’s the musket wars began, over 2000 people were killed during this time. The first tribe to get muskets was at the top of the North Island, Ngapuhi. The tribe did a lot of trading things for muskets so that there became a balance, the balance made them stronger than others. The musket trade had a big impact on land loss for the Maori, the tribal boundaries moved a lot which left not as much land for them. As a result of this many impacts occurred, firstly many harmless people were dying just for others to get what they wanted. People lost their homes and their land over a war that could have been contained in a different way.

Solar System Project

 Solar System Model

(Diagram)^

  • Cardboard box

  • Paper

  • Paint (Black, White, Orange, Yellow, Red, Blue)

  • String

  • Maybe Tape..

  • Paper mache

Plan:

  1. Paint the cardboard box black, and cover up all the holes. Flicker white paint over the back of the cardboard box to create the star effect.

  2. Start making the planets with paper mache, paint the planets to the  colour shown above (In the diagram).

  3. Use the string and attach it to the planets, cut some holes in the top of the box, thread the string through it and hold the planets in place.

  4. Finish the touch ups

Outcome:

The original plan was to use balloons and to paper mache them but we soon found that it wasn't going to fit, so in the end, we ended up changing the whole plan and used ping pong balls as they were easier to work with. We kept the sun as paper mache. Something i would to better next time is take more time to plan out and add more detail!

The Great Depression

This term we are going to be having a look at the Holocaust, At the beggining we will be looking at the great depression.

Why was Germany hit the hardest during the depression?

In 1929 the Wall Street Crash led to a worldwide depression, Germany suffered more than any other nation as a result of the recall of US loans, which caused the economy to collapse.

What did Germany have to agree to by signing the Treaty of Versailles?

The Treaty of Versailles gave Germany new boundaries. Germany was required to accept responsibility for causing all the damage of the war that was. They had to pay an unspecified amount of money in reparations.

How was New Zealand Affected by the depression?

The great depression originally started in the united states but the depression reached New Zealand, The depression reached us because we are an agricultural country. We started losing money because they no longer brought our product. Unemployment in New Zealand rose to 12%, and those that were lucky enough to keep their jobs lost 20% of their income

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP) has many causes and effects which harm the environment in the form of air, water and land pollution. Some of the effects … It can’t really be reversed because the garbage patch is so large. They could try to reverse it but there's nowhere for it all to go. Even if it was to be reversed, how do we know it won't happen again as we use plastic in our everyday lives. Sea animals also mistake the rubbish for food, they also get stuck around their necks and in their nose and mouth.

The GPGP is a large collection of marine debris in the north pacific ocean. Marine debris is litter that ends up in oceans or other large bodies of water. The GPGP is the largest of the five offshore plastics zones in the world's oceans. It is estimated that 1.15 to 2.41 millions tonnes of plastic is entering the ocean each and every year from rivers. The GPGP covers the surface area of 1.6 million square kilometres, so an area three times the size of France. Sadly extinction is becoming more of a problem for sea life because the rubbish is getting stuck in their digestive systems due to it not being able to be digested.
